FlorenceIf you’re in love with art, history, architecture, museums and everything about the Italian Renaissance, I promise you, Florence is the place to come to. What better way to learn about the Renaissance then to come here where it all started? Florence is definitely worth the hype that everybody talks about, and it is, in my opinion, a must see whenever you’re in Europe. It’s one of those gems of Europe that you just have to witness for yourself.
When I was here I really had that Italian feeling. Probably because of that fresh Tuscany scent in the air. The hills surrounding the city, the beautiful architecture, the people, the culture. I loved everything about Florence. It’s like a cleaner and more welcoming version of Rome with a lot too offer as well. To my gamers out there, if you know anything about Assassin’s Creed, it’s identical to that. There is so much this city has to offer! I liked this city better than Rome, it was just awesome. Check out some sites I visited! Florence Dome & Piazza's
When we got off the shuttle from Rome, we made our way outside the station and I was very impressed with this place from the start. We were walking around and ended up at the Piazza del Duomo.
STOP HERE! Take a second and admire the beauty of the building that is in front of you. The Basilica of Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore, or Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower. It is such a beautiful building and your eyes will never get tired of looking at it. The Firenze Duomo, Florence Dome, is the symbol of the city. Next to it you can climb up the bell tower for I believe 10 Euro. Definitely a must. As you climb higher and higher, the spaces begin to get more narrow and the steps begin to get more steeper. No matter, it’s all worth it because once you’re at the top, you won’t care. The view is literally breathtaking. From atop you can see the entire city and the beautiful hills in the background just add icing on the cake. Get your camera lens ready for you cannot resist to snap some pics. Afterwards, we went to another area called Piazza della Signoria. A big open courtyard with a bunch of statues surrounding it on the sides. A nice place to just chill in and take photos infront of the big fountain that’s there too. There are so many piazza’s that it is a little overwhelming and I wish I can provide more information about each one. We walked around as much as we could for hours and at one point ended up in some other area I don’t remember the name to. It was a like a huge food court that had so many people but I managed to find a place that didn’t have too many people just above it. We ate pizza, of course! In Italy, they don’t serve pizza in slices, they just give it to you as it is rounded and as you can anticipate it is absolutely delicious no matter what type you order. As the day began to end we crossed this bridge that went over the beautiful river that separated the city into a different part. We ate at a gelato place and it was so good! We also came across a fellow American from Detroit and chatted for a bit. As the day began to end, so did our time in Florence. Sucks that we were only here for a day. I also heard the nightlife here is awesome according to a friend of mine who used to live here through study abroad. Pack your bags and make your way to my favorite city, so far, in Italy. I wish we weren’t just in Florence for the day, otherwise I would definitely be exploring more and getting lost throughout the city. I didn’t get to see everything I wanted to, but I know I will be back, and I hope one day you will too! |
