I became very involved with fitness in my high school years. I started my freshman year of high school but didn’t really know what I was doing. I would workout biceps everyday, using just the machines and no free weights. Luckily some guy had been observing my workouts and told me to switch my shit up, otherwise I would’ve been on that boat for who knows how long.
I was pretty unhealthy during my younger years and with no sense of activity whatsoever, unless you count playing video games and eating donuts activity? I remember being in 5th grade,10 years old and not very tall (I don’t remember the exact height), 195 lbs. Yeah, I was a fat ass kid! Thank God that all changed because now I can’t get enough of fitness. It all took just mind power, changing up some eating habits, and just getting my ass in the gym.
Starting off about 2 years ago, my strength was absolutely terrible. I would gradually get stronger, then I would get weaker. My weight was still kind of high, I think over 200 lbs and I couldn’t bench that much which was embarrassing to me.
Towards the end of my junior year of school I took a huge change in my life. I started to count all calories, watched everything I ate, and hit the gym extra hard. From June to about August, I had gone down from about 206 to 160 lbs. I couldn’t believe I actually had abs and vascularity! Though I looked great and the best I had ever looked in my life, I was weak as shit. I was only benching 155 lbs for like 6 reps, I didn’t deadlift, my squat was okay, not good enough for me. I was looking up YouTube videos on how to put on more size, or “bulk up”, and there was this one that said “Eat big to get big”.
I took those words way to literal..
I had begun to eat literally everything in sight. Pizza, cakes, burritos, fried stuff, anything. I ate that shit with pleasure. However, I wasn’t benefiting myself. I was just getting fatter. To be honest I really didn’t start losing my cuts up until a few months later when I began to notice my fat coming back. All my hard work had disappeared. Those cuts were short lived. I wasn’t even getting much stronger by eating all that shit. It sucked.
Eventually I realized I just had to eat the right foods and do the right thing. Honestly I feel like as long as you eat right, workout and be active you will be successful with yourself. Supplements are optional, they’re not necessary though. I took Animal Cuts, which is a fat burner, and it helped me a lot when I went through that phase to get abs. As for protein, I just eat meats and whatever source has protein really. Not much of a protein powder kind of guy; I’m all natural when it comes to my macros.
Nowadays, I still have some of those cheat meals that everyone loves and hates. Love because well who doesn’t love food?! Hate because it will “ruin” their progress. One day of eating bad won't hurt you just like one day of eating won’t help you. Now, I’m not a nutrition expert nor do I claim to be, I’m just talking about what I experienced with myself and what I know. I love to eat shitty food and drink too but it’s not really something I do everyday.
Moderation is key.
Fortunately now, I’m doing just fine. I’m maintaining my body weight, eating right, getting stronger, and overall improving. I'm 5'8 and I weigh about 185 lbs.

Powerlifting
I am a big fan of powerlifting. The idea of this type of workout is to lift insane amounts of weight in the form of bench press, squat, and a deadlift. I also like to incorporate overhead press as well. I'm not the strongest person out there; not even close, but I really enjoy these big movements that really focus on strength and power. There are tons of great programs out there for powerlifting, but the one that I enjoy to do is 5/3/1 split. Check out the link for more info: https://www.t-nation.com/workouts/531-how-to-build-pure-strength.
I looove lifting heavy same way a fat kid loves to eat pizza. I enjoy it. Deadlifts are my favorite, in my opinion. I think it’s because I can pull the most weight (this should be everyones heaviest lift).
They work everything in your body. When you lift up from the ground, you’re activating pretty much all your muscles. That’s how epic the movement is. This exercise must be done with good form, otherwise it will result with a serious injury to your back or other parts if done incorrectly. That's a no-no. I personally stick with standard deadlift. This is where you keep your legs closer while pulling the weight and it primarily focuses on your back, but also your lower body and well like I said before a little bit of everything. There are also straight leg and Romanian deadlifts which focus a lot on the hamstring muscles.
I went from pulling shit weight with shit form to over 400 lbs and counting. When it's time to deadlift, I come to the gym ready to conquer.
Now for everybody's favorite and probably the most popular: squats.
Hold the applause, I know. I'm excited too. The ideal exercise when it comes to having "dat ass". We all want one, yes. I personally enjoy squats so I don't mind even doing them three times a week. Good form is important for this movement too. Feet squared away, toes pointed a little outward, drop down, hips back, drive with heels on the way up. Boom, a perfect squat. Want to make it even more perfect? Squat all the way down past parallel. Though some believe it not to be necessary; I love when people do it. It's completely natural. Think about it; before toilets were invented, humans would squat all the way down to poop, this would relax the anus releasing your shit (like my analogy?)! It's perfectly safe as long as you know how to do it and don't fall flat on your face. Always have a spot and don't do that half squat shit.
The most I can squat is probably 315, ass to grass. Hopefully more to be honest. Still grinding!
So if you want that bubble butt do some skwats!!
Last but not least, bench press.
"How much do you bench, bro?". Hands down the most common asked question by dudes in and out of the gym scene. My answer would always be embarrassing, considering it was always my weakest lift and still is. Don't be surprised if you stumble across a guy who skips deadlifts and squats but never ever forgets to bench. "It's a show muscle, bro. Girls don't care about the other shit. Upper body all day" Though it may be true to an extent (I have met girls who just like a nice upper body), it's important to be well balanced. Don't be a little pansy and don't skip out on the other exercises.
Like I said though my bench sucks. My max lift is 230 as of late. Bleh.
Determined to make myself stronger, physically and mentally! Can only go up from here.
